CARPET MAINTENENCE

Carpet vacuuming is one of the most important and easiest ways to care for your carpet. But there is a right way and a wrong way to vacuum. Learn how to vacuum and prolong the life of one of your largest investments in your home, your carpet.

Carpet vacuuming. How to vacuum my carpet. There is a right way and a wrong way. The first thing you want to do is inspect your vacuum cleaner. Ideally, your vacuum cleaner is manually adjustable brush (beater brush), with long soft brushes. This is because automatically adjusting vacuum cleaners typicaly do not do a very good job of adjusting to the proper height (thickness) of your carpet. Short stiff brushes can damage your carpet.

How to adjust your vacuum cleaner  to the proper height of your carpet. The PROBLEM. If the brush is set too low it can damage your carpet  by wearing out the yarns. First push towards the pile then Pull the carpet against the pile in overlapping even rows. You not only want to remove dirt and sand but you  want to fluff up the yarns.

Constantly move the vacuum and never let the vacuum sit. If you let the brush sit there long enough it may actually melt your carpet. So if the phone rings or you become distracted, turn off your vacuum cleaner.
